Intelligent Horsemanship
A couple of weeks ago we had a visit from Patrick Gracey to help us with a couple of training issues, we’ve been having with a couple of youngsters. Spookily enough the youngsters are all out of Daisy, one of our mares that has been an over protective mother. It seems that her protection of her foals has left the youngsters with a suspicious attitude towards humans. I proposed to see if we can improve the relationship with these youngsters and other horses with the use of Intelligent Horsemanship.
The affect Paddy had on one of the 2 year olds Declan was amazing, OK Declans attitude hasn’t completely reformed yet, it’s not going to be an overnight thing, but it’s obvious the handling had some affect. Declan accepted 4 or 5 of us in the stable at the same time, all stroking him, and Declan didn’t get stressed . When Paddy left Declan started putting his head out of the stable window for the very first time, he usually kept away from looking out as people are outside. Following Paddy’s instructions I can now get the head collar on Declan without any stress and he’s started getting a lot happier with people.
So following on from this we’ve invited Paddy to come again, this time for a day. To help cover the costs we are allowing other people to join us on 14th April. See http://www.torpenhow.com/intelligent-horsemanship-event-14th-april-2013 for details…

Cor de Reno
Reno has moved to his new home with Jenny, he’s now at Manor Farm in Frankby. I’m sure he’ll love his new home and settle in really well. His brother Laddie moved to a new home with George in Thingwall a few months ago. That’s the last of Wendelin’s foals re-homed, we’ll miss him, but we now have a spare stable to use to move things round a bit.
Luke is due to be sent of soon to start some work, he’ll enjoy that (hopefully), we’re just waiting on the weather at the moment
Torpenhow Finesse
True to form Dyna foaled on her due date, just as well as the foal is ginormous. We’ve called her Finesse, Ness for short.
She’s really pretty and nicely marked, however its not clear yet whether she will end up grey like her father. I guess we’ll soon find out.
Well you couldn’t expect her to stay awake for too long she is only 3 days old after all.
