Mo has been on form lately and is just stepping up she has won a couple of Newcomers recently, though at South View she came second, and jumped her first double clear in the Foxhunter, not bad really since its only her second foxhunter.
Mo has been out and about jumping again, she really is photogenic. She is such a handsome lady. Her foal Tina has been playing today as usual, she already thinks she’s a star.
Steve and I have bought a share in the promising young stallion Why Me. We bred a foal from him a couple of years ago and it was very special, we look forward to seeing Eve next year when she is 4 and starts competing.
We’ve just had a good day out at South View in Wettenhall, Cheshire. Only her second newcomers class and her second time jumping outdoors. She’s improving all the time, but has a lot to learn yet, can’t wait to see her in some bigger classes. Amazingly I seem to be improving at this photograph stuff.
Luke is full brother to Emma Shaw’s It’ll be me (10th Foxhunter final 2005). Luke’s sire It’s the Business should need no introduction to serious Show jumpers.
Welcome to Torpenhow Warmblood Stud, nice to see you found us.
We are a small select warmblood stud based in the North West of England. Each year we breed 2 – 3 foals from the best European bloodlines. This year we expect one foal by Furst Romancier (Dressage lines) out of a Don Primero mare and one by Barca (Show Jumping lines).
We currently have a selection of British Bred warmblood horses for sale (though they are registered with a mix of breed Societies, including Oldenburgh, Bavarian, Hannovarian and Anglo European Studbooks). So if your looking to buy a horse why not call us to see if we have anything suitable first.
This year we will hopefully have two foals which we will be offering for sale, the first of which is due in May to a show jumping stallion, the second is due early June to the dressage stallion Furst Romancier.
I’m getting increasingly concerned about the state of British Horse Breeding, as a country we have to face it we have made a real mess of things by not having adequate controls in place. Anyone can breed a horse from any mare, colt or stallion that they chose. Currently you have to have paper work for your horse, but it is still relatively easy to obtain a passport regardless of the parentage of your horse.
Last week in the Horse and Hound magazine there seemed to be hundreds of stallions adverts, hopefully that was just my perception and it was only a few dozen, but it is still worrying. Many of the stallions now advertised seem to be of good established and proven bloodlines, but many were young unproven animals. Obviously you have to start somewhere but it just shows people are planning to breed more horses in the UK . The owners have bothered to buy/breed themselves stallions with decent bloodlines. My issue is not with people doing this, after all I have been breeding horses myself now for over 10 years, but the issue is where is the market that they are breeding for?
Horse riders still seem to be looking abroad first rather than looking in the UK , why is this, there are some very good animals coming through in the UK having been bred here. It is that difficult to find a decent British Bred horse? Personally I don’t think it is that difficult, all you need is the right contacts and you should be able to find any number of animals that will fit the bill. Maybe it’s not as glamorous as being able to say I bought this in Holland , Germany or the like, but I bet it will work out cheaper and you’ll be far more likely to be buying a better animal, not the usual continental rejects that seem to be all too common.
If your looking to buy a horse why not give us a call and if we don’t have anything suitable we may be able to give you other contacts that can help.
