Welcome

Torpenhow Dyna Mo with daughter Destiny and SteveWelcome to Torpenhow Warmblood Stud, nice to see you found us.

We are a small select warmblood stud based in the North West of England.  Each year we breed 2 – 3 foals from the best European bloodlines. This year we expect one foal by Furst Romancier (Dressage lines) out of a Don Primero mare and one by Barca (Show Jumping lines).

We currently have a selection of British Bred warmblood horses for sale (though they are registered with a mix of  breed Societies, including Oldenburgh, Bavarian, Hannovarian and Anglo European Studbooks).  So if your looking to buy a horse why not call us to see if we have anything suitable first.

This year we will hopefully have two foals which we will be offering for sale, the first of which is due in May to a show jumping stallion, the second is due early June to the dressage stallion Furst Romancier.

The State of British Breeding

Torpenhow Lia

I’m getting increasingly concerned about the state of British Horse Breeding, as a country we have to face it we have made a real mess of things by not having adequate controls in place. Anyone can breed a horse from any mare, colt or stallion that they chose. Currently you have to have paper work for your horse, but it is still relatively easy to obtain a passport regardless of the parentage of your horse.

Last week in the Horse and Hound magazine there seemed to be hundreds of stallions adverts, hopefully that was just my perception and it was only a few dozen, but it is still worrying. Many of the stallions now advertised seem to be of good established and proven bloodlines, but many were young unproven animals. Obviously you have to start somewhere but it just shows people are planning to breed more horses in the UK . The owners have bothered to buy/breed themselves stallions with decent bloodlines. My issue is not with people doing this, after all I have been breeding horses myself now for over 10 years, but the issue is where is the market that they are breeding for?

Horse riders still seem to be looking abroad first rather than looking in the UK , why is this, there are some very good animals coming through in the UK having been bred here. It is that difficult to find a decent British Bred horse? Personally I don’t think it is that difficult, all you need is the right contacts and you should be able to find any number of animals that will fit the bill. Maybe it’s not as glamorous as being able to say I bought this in Holland , Germany or the like, but I bet it will work out cheaper and you’ll be far more likely to be buying a better animal, not the usual continental rejects that seem to be all too common.

If your looking to buy a horse why not give us a call and if we don’t have anything suitable we may be able to give you other contacts that can help.

We’ve just been to watch Mo jump at Field House in Staffordshire, looks like she’s getting the hang of this jumping stuff. She’s still finding it difficult to get her balance being such a big lady. Hopefully she’ll find the outdoors much easier to handle as she will have much more space.

Nearly time to turn them out.

Horses at Torpenhow

Its spring and it will soon be time to turn them out for the summer, it’ll be a little late this year as the grass has not yet really started to grow, but hopefully soon there will be enough covering for us to turn them out.

Torpenhow Daydream 16hh, In foal Chesnut Mare 5 year old

Torpenhow DaydreamLightly backed and put in foal, as no rider. Very successfully dam line. Half sister to Emma Shaws It’ll be me.

In foal (due May/June 2010) to Furst Romancier Who at the 70 day test ( Oldenburg ) received in all three basic gaits the top mark of 9.0 – walk, trot and canter! His rideability was highly praised – expressed in numbers this means he was awarded a 9.0 and 9.5 out of 10

Furst Romancier stood out from the crowd with his movements swinging through his entire body, developing the highest degree of impulsion and elasticity. A dressage stallion in a class of his own! Sire Furst Heinrich was himself crowned World Champion as a five year old in 2003. With an above average breeding index of 160 points he is ranked as one of the leading dressage sires in the German Federation’s breeding evaluation. The dam’s sire Romancier adds – as the half brother to Rubinstein – the precious Rosenkavalier into the equation. Furst Romancier descends from one of the most successfulOldenburg mare lines: the Edoste. Numerous licensed stallions emerged from this line such as the National Champion and European championship participant Exupery as well as reserve national champion Landjuwel Gold, the Olympic horse Petit Prince, Grand Prix winner Avignon in addition to numerous advanced dressage horses. Conclusion: A stallion gifted with all it needs to become a top-class producer.

Make an excellent foundation mare for any stud, or could be produced herself for any discipline.

Her dam has produced very successful dressage horses, show jumpers and an eventer.
